Cold House transforms former storage unit on neglected Camberwell alleyway into a bespoke contemporary new-build mews house. By thoughtfully reflecting the industrial vernacular of its environment, the design sets a precedent for the regeneration of Coldharbour Place that is modern but contextually responsive. Red oxide painted steelwork echoes the industrial palette and character of the context, adding a vibrant pop of colour against the backdrop of dark brickwork and iron grey metal cladding.
The house is the final phase of a self-initiated and self-developed project by Edgley Design, which saw the renovation of a derelict shop and flat. The site for the house was created in the disused rear yard of the shop.
